Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is the community-based governing body of the Innovation Show Choir.  Individuals who sit on the board are responsible for overseeing the activities of the organization.  Board of Directors positions are voluntary and board members meet periodically to discuss and vote on the affairs of the Innovation Show Choir.  At a minimum, an annual meeting must occur with all board members present.

Mark L. Hummer

President

Mark L. Hummer’s career as an educator has been strongly informed by his theatre background.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in Theatre and Speech Communication from Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa and a Master’s Degree in Drama from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.  He has directed various productions for theatre companies within Texas and Colorado.

 

Upon moving to Los Angeles, he committed himself full-time to his passion for teaching, serving many years as a well-respected fifth-grade teacher.  After earning a second master’s degree, in Education Leadership and Policy Studies from California State University, Northridge, he left the classroom to accept a position as Categorical Programs Advisor at Carlson Home Hospital School where he currently oversees the acquisition and expenditure of Title I funding.

 

Mr. Hummer also greatly enjoys his involvement in a variety of community organizations.  He was the founding president of two chapters (a student chapter and an alumni chapter) at CSUN of Pi Lambda Theta, an international honor society, and also served a term as a vice-president on PLT’s International Governing Board.  He is on the board of the Silver Lake Improvement Association and served for many years as a Co-Vice President.  He most enjoys organizing SLIA’s annual “Music Box Steps Day,” a family festival where young and old alike celebrate the iconic Music Box Steps in Silver Lake where Laurel and Hardy filmed their Oscar winning comedy short, “The Music Box.”  And too, he is also on the board of Make Music Los Angeles, one of the constellations of world-wide celebrations of music held annually on the summer solstice that have grown out of the Fête de la Musique in Paris, France.

 

Mark L. Hummer is honored to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Innovation Show Choir and is looking forward to assisting this outstanding youth performing arts organization continue its mission and reach its full potential. 

Frank Kelly

Treasurer

Frank Kelly is an accountant with over 40 years practice in private financial management.  He holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration/Accounting from SUNY Brockport, and an MBA from Loyola Marymount University.  He has has served as Controller/CFO in various industries including Aerospace, Engineering, Manufacturing and Distribution.

Mr. Kelly has a special affection for the performing arts, as he was a woodwind instrumentalist through college, participating in concert bands, jazz bands, pit orchestra and private youth groups.

Frank Kelly and his wife April have resided in Santa Clarita since 1986 with two grown children and two wonderful grandchildren.

Clare Allen

Recording Secretary

Clare Allen began her love of music as a singer thirty-five years ago when she landed her first solo in her high school choir. From there she went on to perform as a lead singer with various bands across multiple venues on the East Coast.

After taking time off to raise her children, she began performing again, lending her voice to many charitable events in the community. Later, she went back to school and joined The Women’s Choir at College of the Canyons where she earned a Liberal Arts degree with an emphasis in Behavioral Health.  

 

In recent years, Ms. Allen returned to the stage, performing with several local musical theater companies including  DEE Studios Productions, where she landed leading roles in both The Addams Family, playing Morticia, and The Sound of Music, playing The Baroness. 

Clare Allen currently works in the Dental Industry as an Education Coordinator for a company in Valencia where she lives with her two sons.

Carissa Ferro

Director of Marketing and Social Media

Carissa Ferro is a marketing professional specializing in branding and social media management.  She has a BFA in Media Arts from The University of Arizona and extensive experience in the entertainment industry, with stints at large studios, small production companies, and boutique film marketing agencies. Ms. Ferro is currently the Director of Marketing and Communications at Lumos Transforms, a social enterprise that provides stress reduction and resilience-building programs for people from all walks of life. 

 

Carissa Ferro lives with her husband and two children in Valencia, CA. A former show choir kid herself, she’s now an unapologetic stage mom, a mediocre tap dancer, and a musical theater buff. Carissa is thrilled to join the board of  the Innovation Show Choir and looks forward to helping  the ISC expand its reach within the community and beyond!

Nancy 'Dee' Horak

Member at Large

Nancy ‘Dee’ Horak holds a Bachelor of Music and Music Education in Piano and Voice from Kent State University and served two years as Assistant Choral Director at Ohio State University.  She is the Executive and Creative Director of D.E.E. Studio Productions Performing Arts in Santa Clarita, California and has been teaching piano and voice to children for over thirty years. 

 

Ms. Horak performs locally at Larsen’s Steakhouse and The Olive Terrace in Santa Clarita and has been a featured performer at venues around the U.S., including the Four Seasons Restaurant in Beverly Hills, the Grand Hotel and the Kitano Hotel in New York City, and three years as a featured performer at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.  She is currently preparing a Broadway Revue, Helloooo Broadway!, a fund-raiser for the Parkinson’s Foundation, which is slated to feature actor Michael J. Fox.

 

Nancy 'Dee' Horak brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the performing arts for youth to the Board of Directors of the Innovation Show Choir and is excited to participate.
